Recently, a disease called Japanese encephalitis has been observed in some cities of India. It is important to be aware of this because so far at least eight people have lost their lives due to this disease, while fast people are falling victim to it. Health officials have been asked to create the District Rapid Response Team (DRRT). Japanese encephalitis also claimed several lives last year. Let’s tell you what is Japanese encephalitis?
Japanese fever is also known as Japanese encephalitis. (JE) is spread by the bite of mosquitoes. These mosquitoes are infected with the flavivirus. In this disease, the membranes around the brain are affected. The Japanese encephalitis virus is a major cause of acute encephalitis syndrome. It does not spread from person to person. In a person suffering from Japanese fever, symptoms appear after 5 to 15 days.
Symptoms of Japanese Encephalitis
In most cases, people infected with JE, or Japanese encephalitis, do not show any symptoms. If patients have symptoms, they are very mild. There may be a problem with swelling in the infected person’s brain. This causes symptoms such as severe headache, fever and chills to appear. There is also stiffness in the neck. Often there is also the possibility that the infected person will fall into a coma.
Japanese encephalitis treatment
JE is caused by a virus called flavivirus and is mainly spread by Culex mosquitoes. The virus persists in pigs and wild birds of prey. Unfortunately, there is no specific cure or antiviral or antibiotic for the disease. Treatment is completely symptomatic and depends on the patient’s self-healing capacity. JE can be prevented by getting two shots of the JE vaccine. It is recommended to be given in areas where Japanese encephalitis is endemic and very common.
Two doses of the vaccines are recommended 28 days apart. If one wants an early vaccination in the elderly and young people, it can be given even after 7 days after the first dose. Vaccination certainly helps to avoid serious complications and is done to prevent serious cases of Japanese encephalitis.
